Piazze del capoluogo _ Monsummano Terme
Water is a significant element in the history and economy of Monsummano: from Madonna di Fontenova, to the landscape of the Leonardo river, and the famous thermal baths. Thus it is precisely the theme of water that inspired the project. In front of the Basilica the water fountain, in remembrance of miraculous spring water of 17th century, is characterised by jets that come directly from the ground. In the rest of the square the water is further represented in flowing lines made of local and traditional travertine spread out throughout the centre, joining the squares in a single gesture. The different travertine materials frame and characterise areas depending on their function. The night lighting continues the idea of flow in the project. Strips of travertine at night become the rippling waves that visually unite the squares.
